On May 13, Student Rally entitled “Searching for the Lost Golden Key” was held at the People’s Square. Recently, several corruption scandals in accountancy of Korea University (KU) were disclosed through the 2018 audit from the Ministry of Education. Student rallies on this corruption scandal are planned to be held every Monday, with today’s rally as the starting point. This rally clearly illustrates the students’ anger and their voice against the school’s misusage of their tuition fee, which they rightfully paid to gain education.

President of KUSU Kim Ga Young (’13, Life Science) first explained the reason for the rally and explained specific damages caused by the scandal. Corruption mostly occurred in the form of using extravagant amount of unrelated finance, which included student’s tuition fees. The purchase of golden keys for retirement presents was especially shocking, causing great condemnation from the student body, eventually triggering this relay rally. After President Kim’s speech, five students from each club and college made a speech.

President of the Division of International Studies Lee In Seung (’15, International Students) stressed that, the current state makes students doubt KU’s motto “venture your youth, then we will venture the world.” He added that “transparent management is required to know whether the money paid by the students is used for the students.” Hoping to gather more attention through consecutive rallies planned to be held in the future, KUSU ended the first rally on a positive note
