Korea University (KU) announced on March 11 that it held the 2016 Seokrimhwae Scholarship Awarding Ceremony on the previous day. A total of 46 students have been selected as scholarship recipients. The students went through the evaluation of professors of the managing committee of each departmental college, head of departmental college and university academic officials. Students who show good grades in studies and are set as good examples to others despite their hardships have been nominated.

Seokrimhwae, founded in 1970, is a scholarship association created under the goal of professors fostering younger students. 940 professors are currently actively participating in the association. Seokrimhwae can be said to be the biggest scholarship association within KU. On average, the association annually awards approximately 100 students with 2,000,000 to 5,000,000 won each. This year by far, 123,000,000 won worth scholarship has been given.

“This association was started in 1970 which was a hard time for everyone. However, if it were not for true love, the association could not have continued to survive,” Ahn Beob Young, the head of Seokrimhwae announced at the ceremony. Seokrimhwae hopes to continue this meaningful event by communication with not only the students but also its members.
