Korea University (KU)¡¯s Center for Teaching and Learning is accepting mentee applications for their 1:1 Academic Coaching Program (ACP) on a rolling basis. Generally conducted within 7 to 12 sessions, each lasting from 50 minutes to 1 hour, the program can provide KU undergraduate students with helpful advice and strategies to navigate their academic journey. The program is offered in Korean, English, and Chinese and can be accessed online or through in-person meetings.
The ACP sessions aim to help effectively tackle recurring problems that hamper students¡¯ progress, including setting study goals, building motivation, dealing with emotional burdens (academic stress, anxiety, etc.), planning effective studying strategies, and more. Coach Kang Ji-eun (Center for Teaching and Learning) differentiates between psychological counseling and coaching, arguing that ¡°coaching is not just based on positive psychology, but also explores the future within the paradigm of strengths and possibilities.¡± By reflecting on their academic situation and emotion towards it, students report a deeper self-understanding and discover previously hidden strengths. ¡°We trust clients¡¯ ability to be the ¡°life problem solver¡±, but if you have difficulties during the process, it is perfectly normal to seek help,'' Coach Kang emphasizes.
