On May 24, in the occasion of the yearly Granite Tower Festival (Daedongjae), Korea University (KU) forged business agreements with
11 organizations to incentivize recycling and sustainability on campus. The signing parties included the Ministry of Environment, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, LG Electronics, and several other prominent entities. These recent agreements solidified KU¡¯s commitment to reducing the use of disposable products and undertaking consciousness-raising projects. As part of these efforts, the university introduced a new environmental campaign aiming at implementing the Zero-Waste method throughout the Daedongjae celebrations.

A voluminous red booth titled ¡°KU Zero Station¡± appeared next to the stage in People's Square for the duration of the festivities, distributing ice-cream and encouraging proper disposal of garbage. ¡°The set-up of the booth was quintessentially a gigantic, clean recycling bin, where we were instructed to throw our trash away into their designated areas. The presence of visual guides of what goes where definitely helped,¡± commented Kim Chaerin (¡¯21, International Studies), expressing her satisfaction with the experience. Granted, the student pointed out that it may be helpful to consider maintaining a comparable reward-system utilizing KU disposing facilities all year round.
