On May 27, from 1:30 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on the first floor of the Veritas Hall at the CJ Law Hall, Career Development Center held its sixth Alumni Café, an annual career festival where the alumni of Korea University (KU) and the students of KU gather to share intimate details on employment nowadays. The participants of the event were asked to prepare a set of questions for the alumni beforehand so that the alumni could provide them with thorough and in-depth answers during the given fifty minutes of their conversations. The event was held to help students better understand the reality of today’s job hunt and to provide students with practical information that cannot be found on the Internet.

The fields of career for the guest speakers that were invited to the Alumni Cafe event ranged from consultants of McKinsey & Company, a company well known for its business advisors and counselors to the salesmen of Google Korea. All the guests were assigned with four to five individuals to tell their stories on employment and to give effective tips on how to successfully find a job in the most suitable companies for themselves.

For instance, Lim Yoojin (Public Administration), who now works in Korea Electric Power Corporation, provided students useful information on the various stages of job interviews and how to prepare for it. One of the student participants, Son Yerin (French Language and Literature) sayid, “My goal for today is to acquire the internal information that could not be acquired on the Internet or anywhere else.” At another table, Lim Haesong, who now works at Incheon International Airport, elaborated on the types of books she read while preparing for her job interviews and on how to prepare for the two stages of interviews. Lim even provided students with an organization chart and explained the roles and characteristics of each of the organizations within her company. Overall, the event ended in a huge success, leaving numerous students with clearer insights about their future employment opportunities.
