On July 29, South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) announced that Korea University (KU)'s K-Hub Grand Consortium was selected as the official agency in charge of innovative hub businesses. According to E-Today, the Consortium will receive 45.5 billion won for stimulating artificial intelligence (AI) growth and training. KU will coordinate multiple universities, firms, and research institutes to develop and gain competitiveness in AI manufacturing. This project is expectant of MSIT's financial backing and infrastructural support for the next five years.

K-Hub Grand Consortium involves the participation of 57 domestic and foreign universities, 119 firms, and 18 research institutes. The collaboration of multiple facilities will contribute in promoting AI capabilities, human resource access, and an open research environment. In addition, to match the scale of this project, the Consortium is preparing a "50 petaflops (PF) computing center," which can house 1000 people at the same time. In sum, KU's involvement in AI research marks a groundbreaking moment of scientific history.

The Vice Minister of MSIT mentioned that "As most of the major researchers who lead the AI field in South Korea participate in this innovation hub, we are expected to play a pivotal role in increasing the capabilities of AI." The outcomes of the K-Hub Grand Consortium are highly prospective. All investigation results and information are reported to be open to any researcher interested in the findings.
