[NEWS] The First Liberty, Justice, and Truth Lead Week

From February 2 to February 4, the Korea University (KU) Institute for General Education held its very first Liberty, Justice, and Truth Lead Week at the Media Hall. The event was held to share the achievements of Liberty, Justice, and Truth, a general studies course distinctive in KU, and to seek for the way that future-oriented education of liberal arts must head for.  

On the first day of the event, the participants of the presentation competition previously held in January presented their works. The team *Lee and Son Family* discussed the process of how big science becomes subordinated to the political-economic interests and who must take the responsibility. Team *Baby Tiger* discussed the restrictive standards of beauty and criticized the society and media for reproducing them, with insights of great depth. The team *WWW* dealt with the traits of virtual space and its influence on our lives. After the presentation, a student forum took place, where students from different majors shared the unique and meaningful experiences they underwent during the Liberty, Justice, and Truth course.

On the second day of the event, special lectures were held. Professor Yeom Woon-ok (Institute of Global History and Culture, Kyung Hee University) discussed the racial discrimination in Korean society, and Professor Hong Yong-jin (Department of History Education) discussed the various *reasons* in western history. On the third day, a workshop for the instructors of the Liberty, Justice, and Truth course was held, providing useful methods to operate the course online.

“The most important factor in the presentation is interactivity. Persuasion is not a mere one-sided transmission of information. The attempts and will to deliver one’s thoughts to the audience are the most important part,” stated Professor Yang Yun-Eui (Institute for General Education) in her welcome speech. As such, the event was a great opportunity for students to practice genuine communication, an essential property for a leader. The KU Institute for General Education expects that the event, which will be held every semester, will provide innovation that leads to a critical, creative, and convergent liberal arts education, in accordance with the founding ideology of KU.
