On May 5, Korea University (KU) celebrated its 117th year of foundation since its establishment by Lee Yong-Ik in 1905 under the name of Bosung College. On the anniversary, KU both commemorated its history and reiterated its societal value by opening the campus to local residents and honoring virtuous alumni.

Seongbuk residents were invited to participate in a variety of programs offered to incite community values and postulate KU’s status, such as a tour of the Main Library, practice sessions of KU’s school song, and experience zones of enterprises located within campus. KU admission officers offered individual meetings for aspiring students, providing advice related to the admission guidelines that have recently undergone modifications.

KU’s President Chung Jin-Taek and Seung Myung-Ho, President of the KU Alumni Association, held ceremonies celebrating the “Day of KU Members.” The “Honorable KU Member Award,” bestowed to KU graduates who have shown exemplary courses of action that have served as a great benefit to society, went to Koo Bon-Neung, the Chairman of Heesung Group, and Choi Tae-Won, the Chairman of SK Group. Further honors such as the “Social Service Award” and the “Crimson Award” were also allotted to laudable alumni.
