On April 17, an event was held in Korea University (KU) to commemorate the 4. 19 Revolution. At the Centennial Memorial SAMSUNG Hall’s first basement floor, a special lecture about the revolution was hosted by Lee Gi Taek, the president of the Association of Contributors  in 4. 19 Revolution. He is the representative politician of the 4. 19 generation, and had led the 4. 18 democratic resistance of KU students in 1960.

A number of figures who actually lead or participated in the democratic resistance of students came for the lecture. On the day of the lecture, however, due to low participation rate of students due to midterm exam period, the originally planned lecture was replaced by a brief  introduction of the revolution. Jeon Dae Yeol, the current chief editor of the Association of Contributors in 4. 19 Revolution, shared some  of his memories and ideas about the revolution.  

He emphasized the spirit of resistance in students back then, and that the 4. 18 democratic resistance is one of the significant events that molded the current democracy of Korea. “All students of KU, which had been an ignition point of the 4. 19 Revolution, will be leaders who live up to the fullest responsibility,” Jeon said as he summed up his lecture. Kim Ha Yeon (’14, International Studies) said, “It would have been a more meaningful event if more students could have participated.” Indeed, voluntary participation of students calls for more attention.
