Korea University (KU)'s Disabled Student Affairs Center is now receiving applications for the 35th "Day of the Disabled" Perception Improvement Contest, which will be held after celebrating the ¡°Day of the Disabled¡± on April 20. The application is until April 13 and any KU student can volunteer for the competition. The contest is looking for creative slogans that inform students on campus about disabilities such as "Making a warm school that exceeds the disability of the mind."

The "Day of the Disabled" first started in April 20, 1981 by the Korean Society for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities. The day April 20 was chosen because statistically, the day has had little rain. However, if April 20 is a Saturday or a Sunday on Saturdays or Sundays, the day is celebrated on April 18 in order to avoid the April 19 Revolution celebration commemoration. Another thing to notice is that last year, the celebration for the day was canceled completely due to the April 16 Sewol disaster that year.

The goal of this contest is to improve the solidarity between those who are not handicapped and those who are. The competition is looking for open-minded KU students who are interested in breaking down barriers and consequently making a better campus society for students who are disabled. "I am all for creating a better society for the handicapped, and think that the contest will be effective," said Bae Jiwon ('15, Psychology)
