On the 26th of this month, Professor Oh Sang Chul of Korea University (KU) Medical Center Guro Hospital was selected as the researcher to be funded and supported for his study on oncology. AstraZeneca (AZ), the pharmaceutical company, collaborated with Korean Health Industry Development Institute to hold the “Oncology Research Program” for such selection and Professor Oh became the beneficiary.

Professor Oh is the medical oncology professor in the Cancer Hospital of Guro. He continuously partook in his study in Research-Center Hospital and developed his knowledge in the field of gastric cancer and colorectal cancer. As he discovered the anticancer treatment according to the categories of colorectal cancer gene in 2011, his prominence rose up to be known by the international sphere of oncology research.

This selection by AZ is meaningful by the fact that this pharmaceutical company attempted to consider all domestic competitive medical teams and pick out the best to receive all privilege. As for the prerogatives, Professor Oh will be able to require any information from the AZ Research Team in the field of oncology, form communication networks with other anticancer researchers from worldwide, and ask for research funds. Most importantly, he can implement specific new medicine candidate substances of AZ into his clinical demonstration.

To the result of “Oncology Research Program”, Professor Oh stated that “We will be able to see great synergy effect after sharing medical technology and knowhow of one of the greatest expert corporations on the field of anticancer,” and revealed his fervor for further research.
