The three-no policy, no attendance, no proctoring of exams and no relative evaluation, proposed by president Yeom Jaeho upon his inauguration caused an uproar both on campus and beyond. Yeom said in an interview with Korea University (KU) press that ¡°The three-no policy is not a mandatory rule for all courses. It simply means that systematic barriers no longer exist and lecturers may use alternative ways of evaluation if they wish.¡±

Indeed, students recognized three new slots upon their registration on the registration website this August. The president has kept his word that systematic barriers would be lifted but actual adherence to the president¡¯s bold wishes is questionable.
Among this fall semester¡¯s major subjects, College of Liberal Arts was the most eager to embrace the absolute evaluation system policy and others. However, even within the college, majors such as Psychology remained closed to the president¡¯s offers. This kind of phenomenon could also be witnessed in the College of Engineering. Electrical Engineering department did not follow president¡¯s offers while Chemical and Biological engineering lifted relative evaluation policy on all its courses.

Interestingly, while professors at KU partially implemented the absolute evaluation system, most refused to allow unsupervised exams. ¡°I like the three-no policy in general but I think some advantages should be given to diligent students who attend class regularly,¡± said Yun Jiho (¡¯14, International Studies). Although the president¡¯s promise has been fulfilled, it still has a long way to go.
