[NEWS] KU Environmental Health Center Embarks on a Public Service

Jung Ji-Tae, the head of the Environmental Health Center based in Korea University (KU) and Kim Wu-Young, the head of Eunpyeong-Gu have begun a partnership regarding the ¡®Children¡¯s Environmental Health Birth Cohort Service.¡¯

As the Eunpyeong-gu Health Center has been designated as a partner for the Ministry of Environment-run service, it will get into stride with recruiting participants this August. The service is a Ministry of Environment-run nation-wide service that runs a long-term follow-up studies on mothers and children from infancy to teenage years and the exposure to environmental hazards and the effects they have on their health.

The goals are to bring to light the causes of environmental diseases that occur in each stages of child growth and to come up with a protective measure for mothers¡¯ and children¡¯s health. It will run for 22 years starting this year and until 2036. Eligible participants are mothers who are not planning immigration and are able to be directly surveyed. Those wishing to sign up can visit the Health Center of Eunpyeong-gu to register.

Kim, the head of Eunpyeong-Gu said, ¡°I hope Eunpyeong-Gu will be able to serve as a momentum to enable the service to provide an environment where our children can grow up healthy.¡± For more information, please call the Maternal Office of the Health Center of Eunpyeong-Gu at 02-351-8214.
