On April 8, freshman seminar course starts in Korea University (KU). This is a required course for all freshman students to become sophomores. To take these lectures, students should log into the blackboard website. It is notable that compared to the previous method of offline collective lectures, all freshman seminar will take place online.

The course aims to foster basic mindsets of freshmen as college students and introduce them basic information which is necessary for campus life. There are also explanations about various programs in each student’s major, so that students can better adjust to new environment. Courses are all online, and will be based on pass or fail system. After taking lectures, students will receive one credit.

The course is provided for a year, and students are required to take one course per semester. During the first spring program, lectures “Welcome to KU,” “Safety Education,” and “Gender Sensitivity” will open. Lectures should be taken from April 8 to May 31. In addition to general lectures, department-level programs should also be taken. Further details will be provided by each academic affairs department.

Regarding the transit from offline to online course, Kim Young Ah (’14, International Studies) said, “This is a very welcoming change, since the previous method consumed so much time. Online courses will be more time efficient, providing students with necessary information on campus life.” As it is a mandatory requirement for advancements, the course is expected to deliver abundant information for freshmen.
