On July 14, the beats of K-Pop echoed through the halls of Korea University’s (KU) Hwajeong Tiger Dome, as approximately 120 foreign students danced to the notes of “Kitsch” by the trendy girl-group IVE. Prior to the flash mob, students hailing from various corners of the globe devoted several hours to rehearsing and perfecting their moves, showcasing their genuine passion for K-Pop music. This gathering of multiple cultures not only highlighted the extensive reach of the Korean Wave (Hallyu), but it also served as proof of the uniting power of music.

The performance was part of the activities scheduled for this year’s International Summer Campus (ISC), where prospective students or simply foreign visitors can get a taste of the experience of studying in South Korea. The ISC was first held in 2004, and it is now attracting hundreds of students from over 50 countries and of different ages. Besides attending academic courses taught by recognized professors at KU, the participants can enjoy various cultural experiences such as practicing Taekwondo, learning about Korean cuisine, and immersing into the vibrant world of K-Pop, as it happened with this year’s performance.
