[NEWS] KU discloses the SeoulInternational Symposium on North Korean Human Rights

On April 30, Korea University (KU) has disclosed a grand event. Known as the Seoul International Symposium on North Korean Human Rights, this international meeting was gathered after long time collaboration between KU and the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).

KU and National Human Rights Commission cooperatively managed to conduct an inquiry about the state of human rights in North Korea. The symposium is organized as a means to analyze the North Korea Human Rights situation as the power structure of its neighboring countries such as South Korea, China and Japan changes. This change of administration of such close countries is expected to influence the situation in North Korea. Hence this meeting was to gather available suggestions and drawback of possible enhancements towards human rights in North Korea.

The meeting was held for eight hours, from 10:00 A.M to 18:00. P.M. Numerous professionals,diplomats, human rights activists, NGO (non-governmental organization) founders and refugee representatives were invited in order to present the audience a wide range of spectrum of how the concept of human rights is facing challenge in North Korea.

The meeting was organized in two sessions. The first half of the meeting was mostly comprised of introducing the current human rights circumstances in North Korea.Also, various suggestions were raised in discretion. In the second half, ambassadors and councils from major countries had a serious debate. ¡°Indeed it is an interesting opportunity to gather knowledge about human rights in North Korea,¡±says Song Yong Gon (12, Korean Language and Literature).

In the meantime, the president of KU, Kim Byoung-Chul and other influential figures such as Han Seung Ju, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade,and Senator Cho Myung Chul offered an opening speech.
