Korea University (KU) announced on May 3 that they are to launch a ¡°Kind Volunteer Network¡± for North Korean Rrefugees in cooperation with the Korea Hana Foundation, an organization that supports North Korean refugees. The volunteer network aims to reform negative social perceptions towards North Korean refugees and help them settle into stabilized new lives in the South.

This project develops volunteer activity programs and manages administrative measures, and provides education on the volunteer acts. It also plans to document these activities. The book, planned to be named Kind White Book, will be able to serve as a systematic inspiration or reference for other volunteer workers.

Kind Volunteer Network will not be temporary but plans to work in a long-term context. Three KU students will be each allocated to the 11 Kind Volunteer Networks that currently exist, and provide support and help.

¡°Universities must take part in resolving social problems,¡± Yeom Jae Ho, President of KU said at the scene of the negotiation between the Korea Hana Foundation and KU. He also showed determination towards helping North Korean refugees start their own business or get employment-seeking education in the face of high unemployment.
