On September 27, the Korea University (KU) Emergency Central Steering Committee made a statement regarding the results of the comprehensive audit of KU executed by the Ministry of Education (MOE) announced on September 24. The MOE found problems in 38 cases related to admissions, accountings on school expenditures, etc. In particular, it revealed that several professors of KU had spent 70 million won initially allocated for research purposes in Gangnam entertainment establishments.

In the statement, the KU Emergency Central Steering Committee pinpointed that the school had been ignoring students’ voices by stating that there was a lack of university funding. However, the audit results uncovered careless management of finance, which demonstrated that there had not been a lack of funds after all.

The statement concluded with the note, “KU should take all the necessary measures on the faults revealed by the recent audit, officially apologize to the KU community, and provide ways not to repeat these wrongdoings.” The KU Emergency Central Steering Committee and the student body expect a more transparent administration of KU to resolve the issues and prevent reoccurrence.
