On November 11, three organizations, namely, the Innovation Competition Research Center of Korean University (KU), the Institute of Communications and Technology Law and Economy Research Institute of Songang University (SU), and Tek & Law Law Firm held a joint seminar at Seoul Sejong Cultural Center. The seminar’s main topic was “The new issues and legal challenges in the field of personal information in the big data generation” and was divided into three main subtopics.

The first subtopic was “The improvement of personal information protection legislation system for the platform industry development.” Attorney Koo Tae-Un of Tek & Law law firm presented first, followed by a panel discussion lead by Professor Kim Hyun-Kyung of Seoul National University (SNU) Graduate School of Science and Technology, Attorney Kim Bo-Ra-Mi and Attorney Jung Mi-Hwa.

The subsequent subtopic was “Big data and issues of competition law.” Professor Yi Hwang of KU Graduate School of Law introduced the subject, which was further elaborated through a panel talk from Professor Hong Dae-Sik of SU Graduate School of Law, CEO Lee Sang-Ju of Samsung Electronics, Professor Go Hak-Su of SNU Graduate School of Law, and Attorney Darren Tucker of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP.

The last topic was “Issues and regulations of location information.” The foremost speaker was Doctor Cho Yong-Huk of the Korea Legislation Research Institute, with a succeeding panel discussion of Personal Information Protection Ethics Manager Choi Yoon Jung of Korea Communications Commission, Attorney Baek Dae-Yong, Deputy Director Lee Seung-Yeop of ICT Institute of Law and Economics, and Business Executive Lee Hae-Yeol of SK Telecomm.
