LG Energy Solutions have established the Department of Battery-Smart Factory to cultivate human resources for the next generation of battery specialists at Korea University (KU). This department is a convergence of ¡°battery engineering¡± aimed at developing artificial intelligence-based methods of production and ¡°smart factories¡± that study security and digital twins.
LG Energy Solutions is the first to establish a contract department with a specific university among technological giants such as Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and LG Electronics. Since master's and doctorate-level research and design personnel are considered insufficient in the battery industry, it is urgent to supply key personnel to this field. LG Energy Solutions¡¯ contract with KU is in essence, a form of self-rescue measures in solving this critical problem. Therefore, students are expected to join the company as soon as they obtain their degree.
Kim Tae Ki, a professor of Dankook University, pointed out that, ¡°Although it is urgent to secure manpower in industries such as electronics and battery tech, universities cannot increase the number of departments needed due to regulations in the metropolitan area.¡± Thusly, he emphasized the necessity of university¡¯s voluntary adjustment on the number of admission to increase those that can be trained for this particular industry.
