On October 26, Korea University's (KU) BK21 Four R&E Center for Sustainable Living System and  University of Cambridge's Centre for Industrial Sustainability announced its plans to open the makEAThon, an event dedicated to discussing lifestyle changes and current climate crises. Starting from October 30 and ending on November 6, participants from around the world will take part in the event, introducing creative ideas and innovating prototypes for certain fields of study, with the ultimate goal of sustainability. These targets of innovation include but are not only limited to food sciences, consumer behaviorism, engineering, and design.

According to KU, the KU-Cambridge Climate makEAThon aims to "create sustainable entrepreneurial opportunities for the planet and for future careers." In addition, it hopes to achieve several of the United Nations¡¯ (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), placing value in "sustainable production and consumption" and promoting "climate action." Participants of makEAThon are developing goods and services that will enable consumers to link dietary habits with climate change. The facilitators are expecting various ideas, ranging from the development of genetically-engineered foodstuff, reduction of food waste, and replacement of plastic containers.
