On May 8, Bareun Party presidential candidate Yoo Seung Min visited Korea University (KU) as part of his campaign. Students flocked to the West Gate at the chance to meet Yoo, who had previously been invited to KU as a guest for a political science lecture. Yoo used to support former President Park Geun Hye during the last presidential election, but he incurred the former president¡¯s wrath for speaking out against her welfare policies. After the Choi Soon-sil incident, Yoo spearheaded the Bareun Party¡¯s efforts to break free from the Liberty Korea Party, and recently suffered a devastating loss when 12 Bareun Party congressmen returned to their former party. Even though he has seen a slight rise in his poll numbers, they still remain below ten percent.

Speaking of how many people had voted for him during the preliminary election carried out from May 4 to 5, Yoo implored KU students to support him. He reassured the audience that they would not be throwing away their votes if they voted for him, but rather making a wise choice based on their conviction. Throughout his speech, Yoo continuously emphasized that he is a candidate who will lead conservatism in the right direction, which he said should focus on preserving only those traditions that have withstood the test of time.

Afterward, Yoo held a Q&A session, where he received questions about his policies regarding free welfare services and law schools. He replied tentatively that he will aim to gradually implement such free services and that he has no plans yet to revive judicial exams to replace law schools. Some students also asked Yoo about how he was able to muster up the courage to make a stand against former President Park, to which he responded that he was afraid but ultimately decided to do the right thing. Before leaving for the next destination in his campaign trail, Yoo took the time to take individual and group photos with the students gathered in the West Gate.
