Korea University (KU) women’s football team, which was established in November 2014, has won the National Women’s Football Championship. KU played against the defending champion, Uiduk University (UU), at the final to defeat them by 5–2. This is the second time the team has claimed a silverware this year since winning a cup last April.

Five universities participated in this competition under a unique rule; each university played against each opponents once in the qualifying round to determine the top two universities to play in the finals. KU finished at the top of the table with three wins and one draw in the qualifying round to play against the runner-up of the qualifying round, UU, who had won three times and lost only once.

UU took the lead 30 minutes after the starting whistle, but KU equalized four minutes later. KU took the lead as soon as the second half started and extended its lead with three consecutive goals and heard the final whistle at an astonishing score-line, 5–2. KU’s Lee Ah In claimed the Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award and Jang Chang became the top scorer of the competition with five goals.

KU’s manager, Yoo Sang Soo, however claimed that he was “more disappointed with the overall play than I (manager Yoo) am satisfied with the result.” Let’s hope that this win serves also as a valuable lesson for the players.
