KU promoting the new mobile ID system, Provided by the KU official Instagram account

Korea University (KU) is planning to institute the KU mobile Identity (ID) which utilizes Decentralized IDs (DID) system based on blockchain technology. By saving their ID cards in mobile phones, students can use KU mobile IDs when they enter the school buildings. The new mobile IDs are estimated to ensure more privacy than the plastic ID cards with personal information written on them. The service will be available in some time near May and June.

The KU mobile ID is planning to expand its coverage, presumably to be used for identifying oneself while getting a grade transcript and certificate of enrollment. Also, through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Hana Bank, a linking payment service with KU mobile ID is soon to be launched.

The mobile ID project is launched as a part of the process to establish a participatory Smart Campus. KU is promoting that the institution will persistently try to build a Smart Campus based on the suggestions of students and faculty. As with the KU mobile ID, KU is expected to continuously implement and endeavor new services to enhance the convenience of students.
