On January 26, 2019 Korea University (KU) Tuition Fee Revision Committee came to an end with its fifth meeting held in 4.18 Memorial Hall. Unlike past meetings, 2019 Tuition Fee Revision Committee was full of conflict. Nevertheless, there are a few achievements that student representatives have made, including securing 11 billion won from school foundation’s transfer money, expanding expenses for supporting students to billion won and opening details of experiment budgets to public.

Unfortunately, foreign students’ tuition fee was increased by four percent despite the student representatives’ firm stance. The student representatives left the meeting without voting to show their strong opposition against the increase of foreign students’ tuition, but only one percent decrease—five to four percent—was made from the school foundation’s proposed raise plan. The school has promised to continue the discussion through additional Tuition Fee Revision Committee on revised supplementary budget plan.

There were significant accomplishments made through 2019 Tuition Fee Revision Committee, but there still are tasks that should be addressed and resolved. It is important for the student body to unceasingly make their voices heard and solve the structural inequalities that exist in the Committee or in other discussions with the school foundation.
