On May 28, the 7th lecture of the ¡°2025 The Leaders Changing the World Lecture Series¡± was held at Korea University¡¯s (KU) Centennial Memorial Samsung Hall. Organized by the KU Student Success Center, the guest speaker was Professor Seo Eun-Suk (Department of Physics, University of Maryland), a renowned physicist and alumna of the KU Department of Physics. Professor Seo has led numerous projects with NASA, becoming the first Korean-American scientist to receive the United States (U.S.) Presidential Award for Space Exploration.
Under the title ¡°Challenging Extremes: From Antarctica to the International Space Station,¡± Professor Seo engaged in conversation with KU students. ¡°Challenges are always accompanied by hardships, but the determination to never give up creates new opportunities,¡± she said, sharing experiences conducting research in extreme environments, such as the CREAM project, which measured cosmic rays in Antarctica, and the ISS-CREAM project, which placed a detector on the International Space Station. Empathizing the importance of tenacity, Professor Seo added, ¡°It¡¯s not what you¡¯re born with that determines success, but how much you love it and stick with it.¡±
¡°The Leaders Changing the World Lecture Series,¡± part of KU¡¯s 120th anniversary celebration, concluded its 7th session. Henceforth, KU will continue to invite influential leaders from diverse fields to continue the series.
