From May 16 to 18, Korea University (KU) hosted the Korean National Debate Championship (KNC). The event was organized by Korea University Debate Club (KUDC) in collaboration with the Hanyang Debate Society (HYDS), marking KUDC¡¯s first KNC since 2021. As the most prestigious tournament in Korea¡¯s collegiate debate circuit, the event brought together top university teams from across the country, including some from overseas. KUDC saw success during the tournament with four KU teams ranking among the top 12, and several students receiving individual speaker awards for their outstanding performances.
To learn more, The Granite Tower (GT) spoke with KUDC President Sihyun Park (¡®24, College of International Studies). Reflecting on the experience, Park shared, ¡°My main goal this term was to host KNC. Now that it¡¯s over, I hope KUDC continues to be a space for students to create meaningful memories.¡± Looking ahead, she emphasized the importance of successful recruitment and fostering an inclusive culture. ¡°As scary as debate sounds, it¡¯s a skill worth learning. KUDC is a space that welcomes anyone willing to put in the work, without judgment.¡± Interested students—whether aiming for the podium or seeking to practice their speaking skills are encouraged to join next semester.
