Korea University Medical Center (KUMC) is launching a major research initiative to combat cancer and rare diseases, supported by a 3 billion South Korean Won (KRW) fund from the Seoul Clinical Laboratories¡¯ (SCL) Precision Medicine Research Grant Program. This funding, established through a 2023 partnership between KUMC and SCL, will be dedicated to four key research projects focusing on early detection and personalized treatment strategies. The selected projects include developing a cost-effective, high-sensitivity early cancer detection in proteogenomics. Others analyze genomic data for early-onset cancers, identify treatment targets for mutated acute myeloid leukemia, and investigate genetic immunity in colorectal cancer prognosis. These studies will utilize KUMC¡¯s Precision Medicine Center and SCL¡¯s advanced research infrastructure to drive innovation in diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
By integrating cutting-edge genomic analysis, biomarker discovery, and targeted therapies, this initiative aims to improve early diagnosis rates and provide more effective, individualized treatments for high-risk patients. Precision medicine is rapidly reshaping modern healthcare by moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach to disease treatment. KUMC¡¯s commitment to this field not only enhances patient outcomes but also strengthens South Korea¡¯s position in the global medical research landscape. If successful, these projects could contribute to groundbreaking advancements in oncology, setting new standards for how cancer and rare diseases are diagnosed and treated.
