On March 24, the Korea University (KU) Institute of Economic Research and the Net-Zero 2050 Climate Foundation jointly held an academic forum on net-zero and the green future at the SK Future Hall. A foundation under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Net-Zero 2050 Climate Foundation was established in November 2020 with Han Seung-soo, a former prime minister, as its honorary chairman. As co-organizer of the forum, the KU Institute of Economic Research aims to take on a leading role in the future economic development of South Korea.

The forum consisted of two sessions, with the first session featuring three presentations on gradual steps to achieving net-zero emissions. Professor Kim Dong-whan (Department of Materials Science and Engineering) stated that artificial intelligence (AI) should be implemented to boost the efficiency and reliability of renewable energy for the reduction of carbon emissions. The second session comprised a panel discussion on practical policies for a green society. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sansu Co., LTD., Kim Ji-hoon, introduced the 100 percent degradable plastic bottles that his company developed last year. The collective effort showcased at the forum certainly seems to pave the way for a sustainable future.
