Korea University (KU) announced that it has signed a five-year academic partnership agreement with the University of Cambridge to strengthen collaboration on global challenges and interdisciplinary research. The memorandum of understanding (MOU), signed on May 13, establishes an annual joint forum and symposium that will alternate between South Korea and the United Kingdom over the next five years. Through the partnership, the two institutions will identify shared research agendas and develop collaborative projects addressing issues such as artificial intelligence, quantum technology, climate change, global health, aging societies and digital transformation.

The agreement promotes a convergence model that integrates STEM disciplines with the humanities, social sciences and arts. Each academic field will be supported by designated faculty members to encourage both expertise and interdisciplinary cooperation. The partnership will also expand opportunities for student and faculty exchanges, joint research participation and the sharing of educational resources. In addition, the two universities identified freedom of thought and freedom of expression as core shared values guiding future collaboration. The initiative reflects KU’s broader strategy of building long-term academic networks with leading global institutions, following a similar partnership with Yale University. Kim Dong-won, president of KU, stated that the collaboration represents an important step in expanding the university’s global research capabilities and contributing to solutions for major challenges facing humanity.
