On March 30, Korea University (KU) Medicine announced plans for KU Dongtan Hospital. This will be KU¡¯s fourth hospital, following those in Anam, Guro, and Ansan. According to KU Medicine, the project aims to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) into medical services. During a press briefing, KU Medicine revealed details of the project, valued at approximately one trillion South Korean Won (KRW). Located near a major industrial belt, the site is expected to contribute to the development of a medical and biotechnology cluster focused on AI-based and personalized care. Set for completion by 2035, the new hospital will serve as a core medical hub in southern Gyeonggi.

The hospital will include a total of 700 beds and introduce an agentic AI system for each patient. The system is designed to analyze patients¡¯ overall conditions and match them with appropriate medical staff, forming what KU Medicine calls a patient-focused workflow. To support this system, medical staff are expected to be relieved of more than 80 percent of their paperwork. To address concerns over data security, the new hospital also plans to establish a data stewardship system to protect patients¡¯ information. In preparation for adopting autonomous AI-based medical technologies, KU Medicine participated in the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2026 and is currently working with international corporations, such as Microsoft.
