On March 22, Korea University Central Election Commission (KUCEC) officially announced the disqualification of “Chojeom”, the only candidate in the 2026 KU Student Union (KUSU) re-election, following the 2026 KUSU election’s failure last year due to the lack of candidates. This announcement implies renewed uncertainty surrounding KUSU leadership. Moreover, as the decision comes just three days after the Public Hearing held on March 18, some KU students expressed disappointment, criticizing what they described as the team’s unprepared and irresponsible attitude.

KUCEC reported that “Chojeom” received three warnings on March 16, 18, and 21. According to the Enforcement Rules of the Election Act, Article 116, any candidate who receives three warnings is subject to disqualification. “Chojeom” posted letters of apology specifying the campaign regulations violated—such as the policy booklet deadline, missing wording, and banner location. Despite their promise to prevent similar mistakes in the future in their apology letters, the accumulated warnings eventually led to their disqualification. Given that “Chojeom” had promised to address rising tuition concerns for international students and *focus* on greater inclusivity for them in the Public Hearing, this outcome may be more disappointing to those who expect diversity on the 2026 campus. Ultimately, both the 2026 KUSU election—originally held in 2025—and the re-election this spring semester were cancelled. As uncertainty deepens, attention now turns to how and who will lead the 2026 KUSU.
