Nature Positive Declaration Ceremony (Provided by Korea University)

On March 5, Korea University (KU) hosted the “Nature Positive Declaration” event at the Science and Technology Building I, on the Sejong Campus. Led by President Kim Dong-one, the event advocated for "A Shared Commitment to Nature Restoration and Enhancement," to broaden the university’s social responsibility by addressing the climate crisis and promoting ecosystem restoration. The event included the presentation of specific goals and action plans for realizing the Nature Positive initiative. KU aims to achieve "Net Zero" by 2045, while setting concrete targets such as reducing water usage by 6 percent, cutting waste emissions by 6 percent, and reaching an 88 percent adoption rate of sustainable transportation.
In President Kim’s welcoming speech, he emphasized that universities must go beyond being places for knowledge transfer and take practical steps in combating the climate crisis. KU is committed to leading efforts for nature recovery and enhancing sustainability for future generations.The event also featured the symbolic planting of a service tree, donated by the National Institute of Forest Science, representing the university’s dedication to coexist with nature. Moreover, KU established collaborative agreements with organizations like the Asia Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) to strengthen cooperative efforts for nature recovery.
