On April 29, the Korea University (KU) Office of Admissions announced the undergraduate application guidelines for incoming students in 2022. Major changes in the guidelines included an increase of quota for students admitted through the state-administered college entrance exam and socially underprivileged students.

KU stated that 40 percent of the total quota for incoming students in 2022 will be based on the students’ results from the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT). Furthermore, the quota for socially underprivileged students will be increased to 10 percent of the total quota. Through the increase, the university aims to provide equal educational opportunities for all students.

Furthermore, KU announced that the submission of personal statements for the 2022 admissions will be discontinued. The university forecasts that this change will help students lighten their burden for college admissions. In addition, the quota originally assigned for special admissions will be reduced as well. Previously, special admissions were open for students who had special merits for language, arts and sports. However, as it was continuously criticized for encouraging the proliferation of private education, KU has decided to minimize it for only students applying to the department of Physical Education, Cyber Defense, and the School of Art and Design.

Through the changes in the 2022 admissions plan, KU stated that the university will strive to provide a fair and transparent admissions policy for all students.
