[BREAKING NEWS] KU Tuition Fees Frozen and Admission Fee Lowered for 2017
By Kim Seung Hyun (shine950@korea.ac.kr)

On February 7, 2017, the Korea University (KU) administration and student body agreed to freeze tuition fees during the fifth Tuition Fee Committee Meeting. The administration and student body made no significant progress toward lowering or raising tuition fees in the first three rounds of Committee Meeting. In the fourth meeting, the KU administration proposed a plan to increase tuition fees for foreign students by 15 to 18 percent, which was vehemently opposed by the KU Student Association (KUSA). A fifth and final meeting was held to discuss the plan.

Ultimately, Committee members were able to reach a consensus, with the administration deciding to freeze tuition fees for undergraduates and graduate school students. Additionally, the Committee agreed to decrease the admission fee by 3.5 percent. The plan to raise foreign students¡¯ tuition fees was completely rescinded.
