The College of Liberal Arts is planning to install an elevator in the Liberal Arts Building. The purpose of installation is to help the wheelchair bound students who often had problems reaching their classrooms on time. Previously, the handrails were placed at the staircases for these students, but they have been neither efficient nor comfortable. Kim Yoon Soo (’16, History) expressed, “The College of Liberal Arts Building had been tricky for the handicapped, with its complicated structure and countless stairs.” After constant requests from the College of Liberal Arts, the proposal for the installment was passed in last September. The construction started on July 25 and will be completed by the end of September.

There are other projects besides the elevator that are also under way. Reflecting constant feedback from the Korea University Disabled Association (KUDA), exclusive restrooms for the disabled are being placed on the first and the second floor. The existing toilets specifically reserved for the disabled lack the adequate facilities for the handicapped. The upgrades will be accompanied with the reinforced braille signs for the visually disabled as well.
