Korea University (KU) officially launched its Artificial Intelligence Security Research Institute (AISRI) on April 3 at the Center for Future Converging Technologies. The event marked the launch of a new research body dedicated to address security challenges emerging in the age of artificial intelligence (AI). The opening ceremony gathered university officials, researchers, and representatives from the industry. During the ceremony, the university introduced the institute’s establishment purpose, key research directions, and plans for future collaboration. In the second part of the event, experts gathered to discuss strategies for South Korea to become a global leader in the field of trustworthy AI.

As the director of AISRI, Professor Lee Sang-Kyun (School of CyberSecurity) addressed “AI-related cybercrime is rapidly increasing, and there is a growing need to bring together efforts to address both AI security and trust issues.” He added that the institute was established to unite scattered research efforts and to build a more coordinated system that can respond to the fast pace of AI development. He also emphasized that the institute will focus not only on securing AI systems themselves, but also on using trustworthy AI to defend against cyberattacks, noting that “AI can now carry out attacks much faster than humans, so we need AI to defend against AI.”
