On August 2, The CSIS-KU GSIS NextGen Roundtable was held at the International Studies Hall. The event was co-hosted by Korea University (KU) Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) and the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). The roundtable began after the opening remarks made by Dean Kim Sung-han (Division of International Studies and GSIS) and Professor Cha Victor, the senior adviser and Korea chair of CSIS.

The conference consisted of presentations about the current studies by the scholars of 2018-2019 United States (U.S.)-Korea NextGen Program. The program supports scholars whose interests are focused on Korean studies to develop public policy skills and discuss issues related to South Korea, thereby effectively connecting the academic and policy communities. The participating scholars had studied U.S.-Korea relations based on diverse fields such as political science, education, Asian history, and international relations. During the session, the implementation of foreign policies ranging from economic sanctions to soft power and its influence on countries such as North Korea, China, Japan, and the U.S. were mainly discussed.

The event came to a close after a question and answer session. Dean Kim stated, ¡°I am confident that U.S. and South Korean scholars will contribute to making South Korea¡¯s international relationship move to a better direction.¡± The roundtable holds its importance in discovering South Korea¡¯s role in the international society through discussing it from political, economic, educational, and cultural aspects.
