On July 24, a number of students and lecturers of Korea University (KU) gathered in front of the Main Hall, holding a press conference related to the Instructor Act. About 20 people including KU Student Union (KUSU) and KU Joint Committee of the Instructor Acts participated to express their requirement toward the school¡¯s huge dismissal of instructors and sharp decrease in the number of courses.

The President of KUSU, Kim Ga-young (¡¯13, Life Sciences), started the conference by explaining the background of this event. Lee Jin Woo (¡¯16, Sociology), the Vice President of KUSU, mentioned that ¡°This is the second time to hold a press interview about the Instructor Act, after the one which was held on February 15.¡± He also said, ¡°Disregarding this current situation of huge decrease in the number of courses can violate students¡¯ rights for learning.¡± Part-time instructors who participated in the conference also required better treatment and increase in the number of courses.

The chairman of the Joint Committee of Instructor Acts from Yonsei University (YU) mentioned that the courses in YU also highly decreased, so students are having similar difficulties with KU when registering for classes. As this matter is a nationwide problem, KUSU hopes KU to accept a face-to-face meeting proposal to come up with a resolution before the Instructor Act becomes operative on August 1.
