Korea University (KU)’s Foreign Research Information Center (FRIC) has been providing free services regarding foreign research papers. All services of copying foreign research papers are provided for free, including copying and delivery fees.

FRIC providing free copying of foreign journals was a part of the national undertaking for facilitating joint application of academic information. There are a total of about 31,600 types of foreign journals and 12.38 billion research papers, excluding overlaps, provided by FRIC. FRIC has its centers in 10 universities each having different field of research papers, including KU FRIC that specializes in humanities. In KU FRIC, there are about 1900 types of journals and 890 thousand research papers.

The service is open for anyone. There are some options to apply for services. First is to use Research Information Sharing Service (RISS) website, where RISS members can register for FRIC services. After approval, applicants can choose between visiting library and mail delivery to receive materials. Another is to visit KU FRIC directly, which is located in the Main Library. Detailed procedure will be guided in the FRIC center.

Kim Ha Yeon (’14, International Studies) said, “KU FRIC is valuable for everyone, especially graduates and graduate school students who frequently conduct researches and write papers.” Since its operation in 2010, KU FRIC has been a source of vast information for the past six years. Billions of papers wait to be explored in KU FRIC.
