On April 4, Korea University (KU) and the Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-koo Foundation formalized their plans to launch a new joint educational program, aiming to foster specialists in Southeast Asia. Starting this summer, the project, called the CMK School of ASEAN Studies (CSAS), will provide expert lectures in a range of fields including politics, economy, society, and culture across the diverse nations of the region. In addition to theoretical courses, students will have the opportunity to participate in special seminars focused on business, as well as innovative Project Based Learning (PBL) tasks – that is, a teaching approach that engages learners in solving real-world-problems. Lastly, the program offers a final nine-day trip between Indonesia and Thailand, providing participants with a chance to apply their acquired abilities.
 
CSAS is a pioneering initiative that seeks to bridge the gap between academic learning and hands-on experience, as the demand for domestic industries to expand into Southeast Asia continues to surge. The challenge lies in the fact that many local students and institutions do not possess the necessary understanding and on-site exposure to effectively engage with the area. With the successful launch of the project, KU and the Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-koo Foundation aspire to nurture a new generation of ASEAN leaders who can excel in political, financial, and academic interactions between Korea and Southeast Asia.
