On November 15, the Korea University (KU) Liberal Arts Festival Sisunga took place at the Centennial Memorial SAMSUNG Hall, with the theme of “peace and coexistence.” The festival, consisted of musical performances and poetry readings, was hosted by the KU Institute for General Education (KUGEED) and the KU Initiative for College of Humanities’ Research and Education (CORE).

The festival started with an introduction by professor Ryoo Kyoung-sun, a member of the Asian Composers League (ACL), and professor Zang Dongchion (Chinese Language and Literature), the Principal of KUGEED. Several classical and jazz pieces were played along with poetry recitations. Pyo Young Woo (17, Physics) performed Listz’s “Etudes de Concert No.3 ‘Un sospiro’” on piano, Kim Sung Hoon (16, Business School) played Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely” on electric guitar with jazz improvisation.

The poetry recitations were done by staffs and students from KU, including some foreign students. After they briefly introduced the poems, they read aloud either the works of other poets or their original creations. These pieces included Muhammed Yusef’s “Onajon (mother)” recited by Saidov Ulmasbek (17, Political Science and International Relations) and Cho Sung Yun’s (17, Korean Language and Literature) “Like Dreams, Like Words, Like Home,” written by herself.
