On November 6, a lecture was hosted by Korea University College of Humanities¡¯ Research and Education Project (KU CORE Project) at the Woo Dang Hall of KU. Professor Lee Sang-Hee (Department of Anthropology, University of California), the author of Close Encounters with Humankind (2015), gave a speech about the origin of human being.

Professor Lee confidently explained about the topic of the lecture, and the present and the future of paleoanthropology in 21st century. She talked about the dynamic changes of the theories such as ¡°Noah¡¯s Ark model,¡± elucidating the origin of human being with archeological and serological evidences in a chronological order. That being said, she broke down a few stereotypical knowledges about the human evolution starting from the typical picture of it.

As Professor Lee enlightened the audiences, she said, ¡°Discovering the origin of the human is same as thinking the whole from seeing just one piece of it. To fill up the rest of the parts, imagination is required. During the process of theory making, one should be careful to watch out modern social values and ideas influencing the deductions since modern humanity do not share the same environment with ancestors. People should look for different and unique perspectives,¡± and emphasized the importance of flexible thinking. The lecture ended with an insightful speech about the quality that defines human being, encouraging people to cherish their lives.
