The Anam Hospital has started accepting registration for the vaccine forthe prevention of the Uterine Cervical Cancer. This type of cancer occurs thesecond most in females all over the world and is the fourth common cancer infemales of Korea. TheUterine Cervical Cancer is caused by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV),known to be transmitted during sexualintercourse. Fortunately, there is a vaccine for this virus and this injectionwill prevent women from getting the cancer.

The whole procedure consists of three times ofinjection with lengthy intervals in between. The second injection is received two months after the first time and thethird injection is received six months after the second. The vaccine is mosteffective for females to get the injection before having their first sexualintercourse. In addition, it is very important that females get this injectionas it is the only way to prevent the Uterine Cervical Cancer.

TheAnam Hospital has specially lowered the price for Korean University (KU)students to only 270,000 won total, which compares to the high prices of400,000 to 600,000 won elsewhere. The hospital has started acceptingregistration from April 1 and will continue to until April12,excluding the weekends. In order to register, students or anyone willing to getthe vaccine will have to call the Anam Hospital¡¯s Call Center, and make areservation through the phone. This service is not only restricted to KU studentsbut also to the faculty members.

KimDa Eun (¡¯12, English Language and Literature), who had received the injectionin Anam Hospital, said ¡°I think that this service is very beneficial for thestudents because the price is very economical. Especially since cancer issomething very serious, I think that prevention is verycrucial as well. So it is nice that theschool is offering these kinds of benefits to students.¡±
