Korea University Student Association (KUSA) held a rally from 12 P.M., May 4. The rally, named ¡°2016 KU Seek-for-Educational Rights Rally¡± was hosted by Star:zari, the 48th KUSA, along with many KU students who joined the crowd and spoke up.

The rally started from the People¡¯s Square, in which the President of KUSA, Park Se Hoon (¡¯13, Political Science and International Relations), and Vice President An Sohyeon (¡¯13, Mathematics Education) of Star:zari reported on the process of Why Not?, an educational rights movement since March.

Then the crowd moved towards the Main Hall to meet KU President Yeom Jae Ho in person, and ask for their requests regarding educational rights. Some of the educational rights that the students were seeking for were as follows: reduction of tuition fee, improvement of KU dormitories, resolving inequalities held against part-time lecturers, and expatriating sexist statements on campus.

The protestors all crowded in front of the KU President¡¯s office in the Main Hall and called upon a chance to talk the problems out. However, he never showed up—instead his secretary came out of the office to try to calm the students who were raged to ask for what they rightly deserve.

Although the students could not meet the KU President and deduct any concrete solutions to the problems they raised, the 2016 Seek-for-Educational Rights Rally was seen as a success. With Park and An talking to the President¡¯s secretary for about two hours, they were able to get a promise that the President will engage in talks with the students within May regarding educational rights.

¡°We could not have done it without all of you,¡± Park thanked all the students that have participated in the rally and sat on the ground in front of the President¡¯s office for hours. He also pledged strong enthusiasm towards the talks that they were to engage in with the President. The crowd responded with claps and cheers.
