Korea University (KU) Guro Hospital recently celebrated the inauguration of the Precision Genome Clinical Medicine Center with an opening ceremony and a commemorative symposium on November 3, 2023. Leveraging clinical trial linkage, pharmacogenetics, nutritional genetics, and microbiome analysis, this center heralds a new era in healthcare, focusing on the integration of clinical and genomic information to enhance diagnostic precision and facilitate personalized treatment.

Comprising two specialized clinics, the Cancer Genome/Hereditary Cancer Clinic is designed to offer tailored medical services to cancer patients. Furthermore, it seeks to predict cancer occurrences within families with hereditary cancer, enabling early detection and ultimately improving survival rates. The second clinic focuses on accurate diagnosis and provides optimal treatment programs for various hereditary diseases.

The symposium conducted in conjunction with the center's opening ceremony explored diverse aspects of precision genomic clinical medicine, including hereditary cancer testing, tumor genome analysis, clinical trials, and diagnostic approaches for undiagnosed rare diseases. Hospital Director Jeong Hee-jin articulated the vision of patient-centered medical care through precision medicine, emphasizing the importance of diagnosing diseases more accurately based on the patient’s individual characteristics and genetic information, and even predicting familial disease occurrences. The hospital aspires to lead cutting-edge research in cancer, rare diseases, and hereditary diseases, thereby advancing the frontier of medical science.
