On March 31, the statistics that Korea University (KU) Hospital in Anam ranked the first in the rate of successful kidney transplantation for foreign patients. According to the report, among a total of 41 kidney transplantation surgeries, 27 had been held with absolute perfection. This makes the overall success rate as 66 percent and rendered KU to reach the top place.

What contributed to such result was the endless endeavor of KU Hospital members. The organization ran the translation system for 24 hours a day to break through the language barrier. Moreover, they modified the administration system and diagnosis procedure so that they match with the convenience of foreigners. Most importantly, the doctors and nurses of the hospital considered every medical condition, food, and culture of foreign countries to provide with better services as possible.

Under painstaking efforts of the hospital, the number of foreign patients increased year by year. Among the patients, people from Mongol and the Third World took over high proportion. This was because local dialysis operation is not processed skillfully in those countries, and in most of the cases blood type does not match. They pay money to arrive in South Korea just to receive fine kidney transplantation in an appropriate environment.

Achieving success in such uneasy operations, KU Hospital came to receive spotlight in the field of medical transplantation, including Asia Transplantation Society of Japan and National Transplantation Society. To such responses, Jung Cheol Woong, the professor of KU Hospital kidney transplantation team claimed, “Though the current medical situation and culture are quite different, we will try our best to understand them and get total faith from the patients” in an interview.
