The board of trustees is the main body that discusses crucial school-related agenda including policies, budget, and overall management. Under constitutional hearing, KU was to form a board of trustees by March. In addition, the school policy dictated that five members of the board were to be elected from the Faculty Senate as the faculty representatives.
However, the university has recently ignored this regulation, announcing without discussion that the faculty representative will be chosen from a university-level board, not exclusively from the Faculty Senate. In retaliation, the Faculty Senate has proposed to have its executive members retire from position if the university does not take back its announcements and the Dean does not send an official request to the Faculty Senate for appropriate faculty representative candidates before March 13, the 99th Faculty Senate Meeting.
Upon the university's refusal to comply with these requests, the executives of the Faculty Senate retired from position as an expression of protest. Later, a new group of executives was elected through due process. The Faculty Senate expressed concern that the KU headquarters was failing to respect the Senate's position and authority.
