On April 21, the 2019 Korea University (KU) Diversity Report was released by the KU Diversity Council. As the council¡¯s first publication, the report thoroughly diagnoses KU¡¯s diversity level across the faculty, staff, undergraduate students, and graduate school students within the Seoul and Sejong campus. The report also suggests school policy changes to increase diversity according to its analysis.

Within faculty, the report points out gender diversity to be a problematic issue within KU. Out of all full-time professors, only 16.1 percent are women; if the surveyed pool is narrowed to only the Seoul campus, the rate decreases to 12.9 percent. Alternately, for students, lack of diversity regarding socioeconomic class is the most apparent, especially in the Seoul campus. Through an analysis of undergraduate students¡¯ high school, region of origin, and income percentile, the report notes that KU¡¯s percentage of financially marginalized groups is vastly lower than the nation¡¯s universities¡¯ average.

The report ended with recommendations of possible methods to diversify KU. By understanding the results of the research, the KU administration is now anticipated to bring about the changes necessary for a more diverse school.
